Discovering that tiny chip or crack in your windshield is never a cause for celebration. It is also not the type of problem that you should just put off thinking about until another time. While it is easy to do so in today's fast-paced and busy world, the longer it is put off and not dealt with, the more serious -- and even unsafe -- it might become. Knowing the steps that you need to take can give you an action plan to follow and make it easier to get this task taken care of in a timely manner.

The moment you notice a crack or chip in your windshield, it's already time to act. Some windshield damage can be repaired with high-grade resin, which fills in the gaps and dries clear to maintain visibility, but this is only possible at the very earliest stages of the damage. Other cracks and chips require a full replacement, and they'll seriously compromise your safety until that happens.

Over time, your windshield is prone to scratches. The scratches can occur in a number of different ways, including general road debris, animals scrawling over the glass or even from the ice scraper. In most cases, you can repair these scratches yourself as long as you have the proper tools.

One of the worst things is driving down the highway and the car in front of your throwing a rock backward and into the windshield of your vehicle. You probably cuss up a storm at the tiny ding that it makes in your windshield. More than likely, you also let it continue to get worse and worse until you need a brand new windshield and a repair isn't even an option anymore. However, here at Only 1 Auto Glass, we do offer rock chip repair.

Auto glass insurance coverage is fairly inexpensive to add to your policy and it pays off when your glass gets damaged. It is estimated that between 13 and 14 million windshields are damaged and need to be replaced each year. The average cost of replacing a windshield is around $350. If you have a specialty car such as a new Corvette with a Heads-Up-Display, the price can jump to $2000. These prices make the small cost of glass coverage seem affordable.

Windshield repairs are done on site and the flaw becomes invisible within just a few moments. Keep in mind that a chip can be repaired in your time but you should not wait too long. A crack on the other hand needs to be repaired as soon as possible because a small crack can be repaired and save you from having to get the window replaced, but a small crack grows quickly with the normal bumps and vibrations of driving.
