Technology is rapidly changing the auto industry. With new safety features such as lane departure warnings, pedestrian detection, rain sensing wipers, collision avoidance systems, automated parking, and adaptive cruise control, getting behind the wheel is becoming safer and more comfortable for all of us. But these features, which are part of your vehicle’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), present a growing challenge for the auto glass world because they require cameras that are mounted behind or near the windshield.
When damage occurs and your windshield must be replaced, these camera systems need to be re-calibrated in order to continue working properly. Camera calibration is a complex process that’s different for every vehicle, and because of this, not all auto glass repair companies are offering calibrations. Sure, they’ll still take care of your windshield replacement, but then they’ll send you to a dealership to get the re-calibration done on your own – and you can’t rely on your ADAS features until it’s done.
At Only 1 Auto Glass, we’re all about making your life easier. If you need a new windshield, we can take care of the replacement and re-calibrate your camera during a single appointment. We have trained to certify in ADAS calibration, and we’ll even come to you to pick up your vehicle for static recalibration, or to perform dynamic re-calibration on-site. Schedule an appointment online today!
STATIC VS. DYNAMIC RE-CALIBRATION
Our skilled technicians have the training and experience to re-calibrate your vehicle’s camera to pinpoint accuracy. We are certified with the Pilkington Opti-Aim system, which allows us to offer calibration for all vehicle models. Get a free estimate today!
There are two types of windshield camera recalibration: static or dynamic. Different vehicle manufacturers require either a static or dynamic process, and some vehicles require both. Check your insurance policy – many companies are paying for this process since they are obligated to repair your vehicle to its original condition prior to the loss.
- STATIC RE-CALIBRATION| Static re-calibration requires a controlled environment and a specific target image mounted on a fixture in front of the vehicle during the calibration process. A technician finds “zero,” sets up the target board and vehicle specs, and then the camera is connected and re-programmed. Test drives are required after.
- DYNAMIC RE-CALIBRATION | Dynamic re-calibration requires driving the vehicle at a set speed on well-marked roads. Only 1 Auto Glass is able to come to you to perform this process on-site, if desired.
Depending on the type of calibration needed and the specific vehicle, calibration can take anywhere from 15 minutes to more than three hours. Feel free to reach out to us at 651-789-1111 with any questions you may have about this process.
WHAT INSURANCE AGENTS NEED TO KNOW
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are being included with more and more new vehicles. Any time a new windshield is installed, the camera must be re-calibrated to ensure proper functionality and to restore the camera to OEM specifications. If you have a client in need of ADAS recalibration, we’re here to help! Please email your orders for scheduling to agent@only1autoglass.com. Our fax number is 651-774-3577.
With Opti-Aim, our certified technicians can perform dealer quality ADAS recalibration on all vehicle models. However, the replacement windshield must be Pilkington or OEM glass. Any questions or concerns? Our customer service representatives are available 24/7 via email, or you can reach us by phone during business hours: Mon-Fri 7:30 am – 5:30 pm; Saturdays 7:30 am – 2:30 pm.
