We have all been there before. You are driving down a busy freeway when all of the sudden, WHACK! A rock from nowhere has put a large chip or crack in your front windshield. And that is just the beginning. The damage can quickly sprout new cracks that can obstruct your view and become a real hazard. But just because your window is chipped or cracked, does not mean it needs to be completely replaced.

Are you trying to get your windshield replaced without breaking the bank? One of the first choices you'll usually need to make is whether you want to get an OEM replacement or an OEE replacement. Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) windshields are produced by the original manufacturer of your vehicle, while Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) parts are aftermarket parts sold by a third-party. Which is right for you will depend on how you want to balance cost and quality.

The first and most important reason you should not put off getting a windshield repair on your car is for your safety and the safety of every passenger in your car.
If your driving down the highway at 55 mph and your windshield chip becomes a large crack, there is a good chance it will startle you and you could lose control of your car and be involved in a serious automobile accident. Is it really worth it to put off a rock chip repair and put your life and lives of everyone in your car and any other cars involved in an accident? Not when an auto glass repair is quick and inexpensive.

Rock chips are among the most common and minimal types of windshield damage, but that doesn't mean they're not serious. Some chips actually require a full windshield replacement, even if they're tiny or out of the way.

If a windshield repair isn't possible because your damage is too extensive, you'll need a complete windshield replacement. Just any auto glass won't do, though. Your vehicle was originally manufactured as a complete unit, so in order to maximize your safety on the road, you must replace your factory-issued windshield with an exact match.
