Window installation companies are responsible for keeping their clients safe in their vehicles once they drive off from the service center. The slightest miscalculation in a windshield installation can be deadly.

If you suspect that an individual or auto glass service center did not install the windshield correctly on your car, you need to bring it to Only 1 Auto Glass immediately. Our technicians can assess the windshield and determine what adjustment we need to make to secure it back onto the car’s frame.

Below are some ways you can identify a faulty windshield installation. If you have any further questions or need to schedule an evaluation, contact us today at 651-789-1111.

1.   The Window Frame Contains Adhesive

An experienced windshield expert does not allow the adhesive to remain on the windshield after an installation. The adhesive is leftover from the last window seal. Therefore, a technician needs to remove any adhesion before inserting the new glass completely.

If you notice old adhesion on the windshield, bring your car to our service center. It could be a sign that the new windshield is not properly sealed.

2.   The New Windshield is Not Flush

Flush is a term that means that the windshield fits perfectly into the car’s frame without any need for adjustment. If a technician does not install the windshield flush in the frame, they ordered the wrong windshield.  The only way to correct the problem is to order the right windshield.

On a side note, some companies will attempt to sell you a used windshield. This practice is common and accepted in the industry. However, it does present a problem. You will need to insist that the windshield is authentic and designed specifically for your vehicle, even if it is used.

3.   Messy Molding Around the Frame

One of the easiest ways to distinguish an amateur windshield installer from an experienced professional is to look at the molding around the auto glass frame. Clean, professional-looking molding is a sign that a technician takes pride in their work and takes precautions to keep their clients safe.

If you notice that the molding around the windshield is bumpy or not in line with the frame, then it’s probably due to a weak installation. At Only 1 Auto Glass, we take our time and do the job right the first time so that we install the windshield safely and maintain your car’s appearance.

4.   Water Leaks Around the Edge

An inadequate seal around the windshield will often reveal itself through water leaks around the frame. Like all other problems listed here, a poor seal around the windshield is not only irritating but also dangerous.

If water is dripping through the edge of the window, it indicates that the seal is weak or non-existent. Essentially you are driving in a vehicle with a windshield that may or may not protect you in a collision.

5.   Not Installed By A Professional

If you allowed a family member or friend to install your windshield, you should already be suspicious. Only a certified, experienced auto glass technician should install your windshield. If you choose to hire some who is not auto-glass certified to install the windshield, you may no longer be covered under the car’s warranty or auto insurance.

You may also not be able to hold the installer legally liable for any damage or injuries sustained into a wreck. Only a certified, licensed auto-glass installer can guarantee their work and ensure that they install the window according to industry standards.
